Frateca ("we," "our," or "us") provides a text-to-speech service through app.frateca.com, the Frateca Chrome extension, our website, and our iOS and Android applications (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the Service handles, why we use it, when we share it, and the choices available to you.

1. Information We Collect and Process

Account and authentication information: When you create, connect, or use an account, including a guest account, we process information such as your email address, account and session identifiers, access and refresh tokens, device identifier, account plan, and authentication status. We may also process your IP address, country, browser or device type, operating system, and app or extension version for security, compatibility, and abuse prevention.

Content you choose to submit: Frateca processes only content you explicitly submit through a Frateca action. Depending on the feature, this can include selected text, an uploaded file or photo, a URL, or the HTML snapshot of a web page you choose to save. For Chrome extension actions, we may also process the source page URL and title and selection or highlighting metadata needed to restore synchronized playback on the source page. We do not passively collect the contents of pages you browse.

Library and generated data: We process and store the records needed to create and maintain your Frateca library, including source content, Quick Notes, generated audio and timing data, titles, task and processing status, listening position, selected voice and language, playback preferences, usage allowance, and download availability.

Payments: Purchases are completed through hosted payment or app-store flows. Frateca receives subscription, plan, transaction, and billing-status information, but we do not receive or store your complete card or bank-account details.

Usage, analytics, and diagnostics: We collect limited information about use of the Service, such as features used, conversion frequency, performance, errors, and device or browser information. Our public website uses Google Analytics and OpenAI attribution measurement after a visitor interacts with the site. Our web application may use Sentry for error and performance diagnostics. Frateca content submitted through the Chrome extension, including selected text and saved page content, is not used for advertising or sent to website analytics providers for advertising purposes.

2. Information Stored by the Chrome Extension

The Chrome extension stores information locally in your browser so it can work across popup closures and browser restarts. This can include your Frateca session, account and plan state, a randomly generated extension device identifier, selected voice and language, playback settings and positions, locally displayed history, task status, source links, highlighting anchors, interface language, and other extension preferences.

Local browser storage is distinct from information sent to Frateca. The extension sends account and session information to authenticate you and sends content, source details, and task or playback information to Frateca only as needed to perform the action you requested, synchronize your library, or restore the user-facing experience. Signing out removes the locally stored Frateca session; uninstalling the extension causes Chrome to remove the extension's local storage. Signing out or uninstalling does not by itself delete content already saved to your Frateca account.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • authenticate users and maintain secure account sessions;
  • convert user-submitted content into synchronized audio;
  • save and synchronize the user's library across supported devices;
  • restore playback position, highlighting, voice, language, and other preferences;
  • provide downloads and account or subscription features;
  • operate, troubleshoot, secure, measure, and improve the Service;
  • prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms; and
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.

4. Service Providers and Disclosures

We disclose information only as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy. Our service-provider categories include:

  • Hosting, databases, and object storage used to operate the Service and store account records, submitted content, processing files, and generated audio;
  • Text-to-speech and document-processing infrastructure used to process content you ask Frateca to convert;
  • Authentication providers, including Firebase Authentication when you choose a supported third-party sign-in method;
  • Payment providers, including Stripe for hosted web billing and Apple or Google for in-app purchases and store distribution;
  • Analytics and diagnostics providers, including Google Analytics, OpenAI attribution measurement, and Sentry, for the website or application uses described above; and
  • Security, professional, and legal recipients when disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the Service, comply with law, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

We may also disclose information in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality and applicable law. We do not sell your personal information.

5. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Frateca's use of information received from Chrome extension APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Chrome extension user data only to provide or improve Frateca's disclosed user-facing purpose. We do not sell that data, use or transfer it for personalized, retargeted, or interest-based advertising, use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending, or transfer it except as necessary to provide or improve the Service, for security, to comply with law, or as otherwise permitted by the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy.

We do not allow humans to read Chrome extension user data unless we first obtain the user's affirmative consent to view specific data for support, access is necessary for security or abuse investigation, access is required by law, or the data has been aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.

6. Data Security

The Chrome extension and other Frateca clients transmit user data to Frateca using secure connections, such as HTTPS or WSS. Server-side data is protected using access controls, restricted service credentials, and encryption at rest provided by our hosting, database, and storage infrastructure. Authentication tokens are restricted to trusted extension contexts in Chrome's local extension storage. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Source text and page snapshots, generated audio, Quick Notes, task records, and other library records remain available in your account until you delete the individual item or delete your account. This retention allows cross-device library access, later playback and downloads, synchronized highlighting, and playback-position restoration.

When you delete a Quick Note or saved library item, Frateca removes its source content, generated audio, and related active-service records. You can delete individual items in the Service. You can delete your account through the account settings available in the web or mobile application, or request deletion at support@frateca.com. Account deletion removes the account and its associated content from active systems.

Deleted information may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before being overwritten or removed. We may retain narrowly scoped security, fraud-prevention, transaction, billing, or legal records for longer where reasonably necessary or required by law. We may also retain aggregated or anonymized information that can no longer be associated with you.

8. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to object to or withdraw consent for certain processing. You may manage or delete library content within the Service and manage browser storage by signing out or uninstalling the Chrome extension.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.

10. International Processing

Frateca and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page, change the "Last updated" date, and provide any additional notice required by applicable law.
